James, the brother of Jesus, confronts us with strong words designed to call us to live out a bold and active faith in Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Seth Winterhalter launches a new series on the book of James. Here we learn that James was not only the brother of Jesus, but was also an apostle, one of the "pillars" of the early church, and the lead pastor of the church in Jerusalem. However, rather than identify with these titles, James instead understands his true identity and calls himself servant of God. If James, the lead pastor of the most significant church of his time and the brother to Jesus Christ, the Savior and the Lord, calls himself a servant, we should too. And we should not only call ourselves "servant," we should actually act like one everyday, in every area and aspect of life.
