James 1:12
When you think of a king you think of someone with the authority to get what he wants to get and to do what he wants to do. When you think of a king you think of someone who is somewhat insulated and isolated from the everyday trials of life. When you think of a king you think of someone who must really have an easy life, because he has all kinds of people working for him, protecting him, sheltering him. All he has to do is act like a king.
Now this might sound strange to you, it may be very difficult for you to believe, but one reason why God permits trials in your life is that He might make a king out of you. God doesn’t isolate and insulate His kings, no He uses the trials of life; He uses the difficult experiences of life to make us kings. This is what James has to say in James 1:12. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.”
Now how do you get this coronation in the midst of trial? Number one, you get it because you endure. “Blessed is the man that endures.” Now how do you endure? Well, you endure knowing that the testing of your faith works patience. You endure knowing that God will give you the wisdom you need to make this experience all that it ought to be.
Hebrew chapter 12 talks about this endurance. It’s like a runner, a runner going down the course and he sees the goal and he keeps on going even though the going is tough; walking by faith. If you want to be crowned in your trials you endure and you believe. You expect, you say I trust God. We don’t live by explanations, we live by promises.
Thirdly, we love. The crown of life is given to those that love Him. Sometime God’s people get cold against the Lord. “If the Lord really loved me He would never have allowed this to happen!” No, it’s because He loves you that He allowed this to happen. So if you want to be crowned in your trials, if you want to reign in life, what do you do? You love Him, you trust Him, you follow Him and you endure in the midst of suffering and God crowns you with glory and power.
