The Actualized Self

James Sampson - Founder and CEO of File Invite

Listen Later

I had the great pleasure of speaking with James Sampson, CEO of File Invite - an award-winning, high-growth start-up revolutionizing the document collection space.

James is a highly person-centric leader, equally impressive and affable - with an impressive ability to talk shop on everything from management strategy to tech trends to daily routines to time allocation to New Zealand culture and everything in between.

A few takeaways from my conversation, include:

  • Leaders need to develop/grow faster than their companies
  • Startup leaders need to lead very differently - depending on the stage of their company (e.g., founding vs growth vs exit stages)
  • The importance of leveraging an OKR (Objective & Key Results) framework to set/track goals
  • Setting boundaries between business and familial priorities
  • The importance of being person-centric - especially as a Tech Leader
