Our guest this week is Donna, the founder of James's Warriors. She founded this nonprofit after losing her son to suicide when he was just 19. One of the most amazing things about Donna is how she turned her tragic loss into a drive to help others in really powerful ways. One of the ways James's Warriors helps is by investing time in schools, providing education and information and awareness about mental health. They empower youth with the vocabulary to describe their thoughts and emotions. James's Warriors also seeks to help those who have lost a loved one to suicide, especially mothers who have lost a child.
Donna's openness about her own loss persuades us to open up and be vulnerable about the pain in our own lives. When you begin or engage in an existing conversation on mental wellness, you'll find that so many going through something similar and can therefore offer compassionate support. Jordan asks rhetorically, "does hope even exist in communities?" Of course the answer is yes. And that's the bottom line. When we team up with other mental health warriors, we are better able to overcome life's battles. Together. And Donna is the truest of warriors.
