January 2015 Tech News Round-Up — WHS 138 – The Wired Homeschool - The Wired Homeschool - Tech, Tools, & Tips for Homeschooling a Digital Generation
Rather than cover a specific topic this week I thought I’d do a news round-up episode. Alot has happened in the month of January. I’m not even going to get into news from CES but I think these highlights from the month will be fun to talk about.

January 2015 Tech News Round-Up
Windows 10 upgrades free for one year – Microsoft recently made an announcement to the press about their new upcoming operating system, Windows 10. The biggest announcement was that users of Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows Phone 8.1 would be able to upgrade for free for one year after the release date.
Apple Watch in April – Apple CEO Tim Cook announce in company’s quarterly earnings call that the highly anticipated Apple Watch would most likely ship in April.
Paper books sales up in 2014 – Sales of real books bounced back a bit last year as tablet sales are starting to level off.
Facebook depression – Though not limited to just Facebook, teens and tweens can experience symptoms of depression when negative things like harassment or rejection occurs on social networks.
Speaking Schedule
I will be speaking at CFHE Homeschool Conference on March 13th, 2015 at 5:30 PM EST via Skype. My topic will be one I get a lot of request for: A Parent’s Guide to Making Friends with Social Media.
