January 4: Changes to Senate Rules, Gerrymandering, Election Mapping, and more!

Listen Later

This week, we return from a relatively quiet year end break to outline some of the make-or-break moments that are beginning to take shape:

  1. Senator Chuck Schumer announced that the senate will debate and consider changes to Senate rules this month, considering whether we can change the filibuster and pass the freedom to vote act and John Lewis voting rights act.
  2. An audit from the 2020 election in Texas was quietly released, but unsurprisingly found nothing out of the ordinary.
  3. Plenty of states are finishing up new election maps, with considerable changes being made in California, Virginia, Georgia, and Michigan. While some maps appear to only be slightly gerrymandered, the balance of power is still dangerously shifting towards republicans.
