In audio recordings released for the first time on Thursday's episode of Dr. Phil, former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle is heard telling a woman who posed as his confidant why they should fly across the globe for a potential sexual exploit: "It would just make things a lot easier — if we're gonna try to get some young kids with us."
When asked by the woman, Rochelle Herman-Walrond, a former journalist who spent over four years secretly recording their conversations, what age children he prefers, Fogle responds: "I like all ages. That's the thing, I mean, I like all of them."
Herman-Walrond, who says she was cooperating with the FBI to gather evidence against Fogle, presses: "What makes it different from one age to another?"
"It depends who is ready for what," Fogle is heard saying before talking about getting children "as sexed up as we can."
Fogle, 38, agreed to plead guilty to traveling to engage in paid sex with minors and distribution and receipt of child pornography. A father of two, he is scheduled for sentencing November 19, and prosecutors are seeking a sentence of between 5-12 years in prison.
In the video above, Herman-Walrond asks Fogle, "I want to know what turns you on the most: the young girls or the young boys?"
Fogle responds, "You know, both of them do." He can then be heard revealing to Herman-Walrond a potential plan for luring children, saying, "And then we get a little closer, and a little closer, and a little closer. And before you know it, it just starts to happen."
Herman-Walrond says she first met Fogle in 2006 when he was a guest on her local Florida radio show, and she immediately became concerned when he mentioned that he found middle school girls attractive. She says that following her journalist instincts, she started a friendship with Fogle to dig deeper, and she claims he continued to make comments about his sexual interest in children. She says she then contacted the FBI and spent five years "role playing" and recording her conversations with Fogle.
