Jason Tamba was born and raised in Congo. In his early 20’s he moved to South Africa and played withe the band Afro Fiesta. He now lives in the US and has just released his second solo album Don’t Give Up, a collection of story songs with a theme of perseverance. Jason has been playing guitar since he was a small child when he made his first guitar. Now his playing is influenced by Afro-jazz, Kwasa-Kwasa, Makosa, and Latin rhythms.
Jason tells some of his story, of connecting with Playing for Change and working with them on creating music schools for children in Africa, and what that all led to.
We’ll be listening to selections from Jason’s new album and his first solo album Za Kongo.
