Jay and Laney J kicked off a new week with plenty of October talk as Halloween season gets rolling across McCurtain County. Broken Bow Police Chief Morrison joined the show in studio to talk about National Night Out, what families can expect, why events like it matter for police-community relationships, and some important safety reminders as Halloween approaches. The show also recapped Broken Bow’s big 62–31 win over Poteau, looked ahead at a busy month of local fall events, and talked about Oklahoma coming off an unusually hot September. Plus, the conversation turned to Halloween costumes people say are played out, America’s favorite fall activities, why fewer people are hosting friends and family at home, phantom phone vibrations, a Florida tourism job that pays $10,000, and the surprising list of America’s best-smelling cities. And today’s Impossible Question came from a Halloween survey asking what type of candy only 15% of adults say they enjoy receiving.

They also talk about Wright City’s district championship and upcoming regional baseball tournament, Crocs taking Five Below to court over its $7 lookalike clogs, and two bizarre stories involving people apparently forgetting that biting is generally frowned upon. Plus, does your dog really feel guilty when it gives you “the look,” what small everyday things can instantly make life a little better, National Good Neighbor Day, the strange things we do with unmatched socks, Rod Stewart’s final major tour plans, and plenty more Monday morning conversation from Southeast Oklahoma.

Today on Jay & Laney J LIVE, we kicked things off with a big local sports story as Wright City Fall Baseball captured the district championship after sweeping Haworth, sending the Lumberjax on to Regionals next week. We also looked ahead to Friday night football with Broken Bow opening district play on the road at Sallisaw, talked about the wild horse and burro adoption happening in Idabel, and highlighted several McCurtain County students who turned in strong performances at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Curriculum Contest. We also got into fall foliage season and the annual wave of “leaf peepers,” plus some new research suggesting short, gentle workouts may help with pain and a small study examining whether cutting ultra-processed foods could improve depression symptoms. And since it’s National One-Hit Wonder Day, we had some fun remembering those songs that gave artists one huge moment and somehow still live on decades later.

Jay and Laney J rolled through Thursday with local and regional happenings, Oklahoma’s ongoing drought and new relief available for producers, plus the question of why time seems to move faster and faster as we get older. They also got into Wendy’s releasing an actual emo album, the 72-year-old Pokémon collector who used a GPS tracker to follow card deliveries, “Colonel Cody” — the baby born in a KFC parking lot — and some National Punctuation Day fun. Later in the show, the conversation turned to the growing debate over massive data centers, the jobs and economic investment they can bring versus concerns over power and infrastructure, and finally the planned Crooked Creek Solar project southeast of Broken Bow and Google’s agreement to purchase its electricity.
