Be careful who you rock with.
Are big features worth it?
No.
A partnership is worth it.
With a partnership, there is no robbery in fair exchange.
There are a few amount of artists who can really move the needle on a feature.
And those people are going to want to $500,000 for a verse minimum.
When you have a partnership, there is equal contribution.
A big feature isn’t equal contribution.
The marketing that comes from that is what you need.
And you need to make sure they market the record.
Put exactly what they need to do to market the record in your contract so you can hold them accountable.
Brand deals and endorsement deals are the same way.
You have to make sure the people you are associating yourself with align with your values.
As an artist, you are the brand.
If you align yourself with something you don’t believe in and/or agree with, you are connected to them forever.
Jay-Z understands this.
It’s why he’s selective with who he works with.
