A rabbi and a Christian walk into a podcast to discuss spirituality and sobriety. Today our guest is Jed Payne who hosts the Church and Other Drugs podcast. Like Asher, he grew up in a religious household. Jed had a fear of sin, going to hell and suffered from anxiety. But he didn't like drugs until he tried cough syrup and then became addicted to cocaine at age 15.
Jed shares his story of going In and out of treatment, burning bridges, becoming homeless and living in his car. His relationship with God was at odds with his addiction, as he smoked crack and preached the gospel at the same time. But after a spiritual experience in rehab, he had a massive surrender to the process of recovery.
While he is sober today and works in the treatment industry, Jed bravely opens up about the challenges he still experiences. This includes his fear of having children, living with depression and waiting for the other shoes to drop after he has been through so much. Although Jed and Asher practice different religions, they learn they have similar views of God.
Asher was also a guest on Church and Other Drugs. Don't miss his episode.
