Jeep’s New Wrangler Willys 392 Brings V8 Power Under $70,000

Listen Later

In celebration of the Jeep brand’s 85th anniversary, the company is continuing its promise of revealing a special-edition Wrangler every month for 12 months. The Twelve 4 Twelve series has now spawned its fourth unique Wrangler—say hello to the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Willys 392. This is the second of the special editions (after the Wrangler Moab 392 revealed in November 2025) to use the muscular 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine. It’s also a tribute to the original, back-to-basics Willys, and brings the price of the V8-powered Wrangler even lower in the process.

This is no old-school Willys under the skin, and it’s a lot more capable than the $44,500 four-door Willys that’s been on sale for a while now. Key to the Willys 392 is its 6.4-liter Hemi V8, which makes 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. It ensures there’s always power in reserve over any terrain, and the two-mode dual exhaust system amplifies the sound of the V8.

The following off-road gear comes equipped as standard:

  • 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires with 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels
  • Tru-Lok electronic locking rear differential
  • Selec-Trac full-time transfer case
  • Dana 44 heavy-duty solid front and full-float rear axles (third generation)
  • 4.56 axle ratio
  • Steel rear bumper
  • Cold air intake hood, including water separator
  • Rock rails
  • Winch capable steel front bumper

It looks good, too. The Willys 392 features special hood decals and heritage 4WD graphics at the back. It debuts a new heritage-inspired color called Goldilocks and looks aggressive on its chunky rubber; those tires, by the way, mean no less than 11.1 inches of ground clearance. Nappa leather seats, an Alpine nine-speaker sound system, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen are included, too.

“Our Wrangler Willys has always represented the purest expression of Jeep capability,” said Bob Broderdorf, Jeep CEO. “Our community has been clear, they want a Wrangler that returns to a more classic, back‑to‑basics formula, paired with the unmistakable power of a V-8. The Wrangler Willys 392 is our answer, building on our commitment to expand V-8 availability across the Wrangler lineup.”

Why A Cheaper V8 Wrangler Matters

The new Wrangler Willys 392 has a starting price of $69,995, making it a full $10,000 cheaper than the only other V8-powered Wrangler, the Moab 392. While still on the pricey side in the Wrangler trim lineup, it’s now also $10,000 cheaper than the Ford Bronco Raptor, which has a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.

No other proper off-road SUV has the Willys 392’s combination of dirt-road capabilities and a V8 engine at under $70k. The new Toyota Land Cruiser is cheaper, but relies on a comparatively tame four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. You can get the excellent Lexus GX Overtrail for under $5k more (including a lot more luxury), but its 349-hp V6 doesn’t hold a candle to the Jeep’s Hemi V8. If you want a Defender V8, that’ll cost you way north of $100,000.

All of which means that the new Wrangler is one of the best off-road SUV deals around, assuming you don’t care about high gas bills.
