Jeet Raval plans to bring a different approach to the top of the Black Caps batting line-up

The Auckland opener has replaced his Aces team-mate Martin Guptill in the squad for the two tests against Pakistan.

Raval told D'Arcy Waldegrave on The Sauce he's a more traditional opening batsman than Guptill.

"Not very flamboyant, pretty boring, pretty simple, similar to Mark Richardson," he said.

"If you can set up a good foundation for your team to build upon, then I guess you're doing your role."

Auckland all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme is another uncapped player in the Black Caps squad, while Canterbury's Todd Astle has been recalled after a four year absence.
