In a CNBC interview, Jeff Bezos called for eliminating federal income taxes on the poor. That is, Americans earning under about $54,000. Why? They currently pay only 3% of total taxes while the top 1% cover 40%. He argued the real issue is government spending waste. It’s not revenue shortfalls. He plans to pitch the idea to President Trump. Bezos dismissed doubling taxes on the rich. It won’t help working families. He says if Amazon ran like some city services, packages would arrive late with wrong items and hefty fees.
This conversation with Bezos on CNBC reminds me of the California Billionaire Tax. It won’t make a difference.
