Jeff Duncan is in his fourth season as head coach of the Kent State Golden Flashes. Despite playing only one home game among their first 18 contests, the Flashes jumped out to a 12-6 start to the 2017 season and look to be a favorite in the Mid-American Conference. Kent State is coming off a 2016 campaign in which the Flashes went 44-14, which tied for third all-time in wins in program history. The team also won the MAC regular season title with a 20-4 record. Eric Lauer was named the National Player and National Pitcher of the Year as well as a consensus All-American. In 2015, the Golden Flashes went 31-21 overall and won the MAC East Division with an 18-9 mark in conference play. That showing came on the heels of a 36-23 record during Duncan’s first season at the dugout helm. The Golden Flashes also reached the NCAA Tournament in 2014 after sweeping four games in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

Before coming to Kent State, Duncan was a captain at Arizona State in 2000, when he helped lead the Sun Devils to the PAC-10 championship. He also batted .360 during his college career at ASU before spending nine seasons in professional baseball, including parts of two seasons in the major leagues with the New York Mets. After retiring as a player, Duncan spent a year as an assistant coach at Auburn before coaching for four seasons at Purdue, helping lead the team to a school-record 45 wins in 2012, including a Big Ten regular reason championship, Big Ten Tournament championship and a NCAA Regional Host. Named associate head coach of the Boilermakers in 2012, Duncan was named the assistant in the Big Ten “most ready for a head coaching job” by College Baseball Insider and was listed as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation by Baseball America prior to joining Kent State.
