Jennifer’s jaw surgery journey began in June 2021 with a SARPE (surgically assisted rapid palate expansion) and mandibular distraction (lower jaw expansion) surgery; these made space for all of her teeth, correcting her severe malocclusion. A future maxillofacial surgery will advance both upper and lower jaws, opening the airway, correcting the bite and improving the flattened facial features. Before this journey is over, she’ll have had ten surgeries to correct all the damage from a lifetime of mouth-breathing. Jennifer lives in Minneapolis, has been teaching preschool since 1993, and enjoys traveling, spending time with her dogs, canoeing, painting, drawing, making travel journals, creating content for Instagram and re-watching episodes of The Walking Dead.
