Vaikka haihyökkäykset ovat kokoluokaltaan pieniä onnettomuuksia kaikkien mahdollisten katastrofien joukossa, ne herättävät ihmisissä paljon pelkoa. Haihyökkäyksen kohteeksi joutuminen muuttaa uhrin elämää usein pysyvästi, mutta Jersey Shorella tapahtuneet haihyökkäykset muuttivat koko ihmiskunnan käsitystä haita kohtaan.
