When the food and water were scarce they spoke sinfully against God and Moses and despised the provide manna food. As a result of their rebellion God send poisonous vipers into the camp and hundreds began to die. Then the hurried to Moses asking God to have mercy. Moses prayed and God an unusual instruction.
