This fourth week of Lent, our talk comes from Luke 22:39-53.
The emotional anguish of Jesus portrays the full suffering He endured and also was still to come. The garden, Gethsemane, the place of the olive press, is a picture of how Jesus would be severely pressed. Because of Jesus we can face the certainty of suffering in hope and use the disciplines God has given us to not lose heart in times of suffering.
Key Verse: Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. (Luke 22:39-44)
