On this occasion, the Samaritans did not welcome or receive Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem to be handed over to men. Jesus rebuked the disciples for wanting to destroy Samaria with fire for not accepting them in their land. Instead, Jesus told his disciples that "the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." And as you may know, that's precisely what he did: he died on the cross for all of us.
