John's introduction to his witness of the Messiah begins with a prologue that spells out his main idea. He first identifies the Word as preexistent in eternal fellowship with God as God, face to face. Then he moves in verse fourteen to declare the great truth of the incarnation. The Word became flesh and pitched his tent for a few years among us in order to redeem us. This required that the Word became a mortal human man who could die and be resurrected.
