John called himself "the one Jesus loved" in his Gospel account. Far from being a snub to the other disciples, John title because it is how he identifies: he is one the Jesus loves, just like we all are. Jesus also called John and his brother, James, "sons of thunder" and it might not mean what you think. This sermon serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative impact of wholeheartedly following Jesus.
