John 5 tells the story of Jesus healing an invalid at the pool of Bethesda near the sheep gate in Jerusalem.

Now the man had been sick for 38 years and the day Jesus saw him he healed him.

Well it just so happened that that day was the Sabbath.

Now this angered the Jewish leaders.

No one was supposed to work on the Sabbath.

But Jesus answered them, "My father is working until now, and I am working."

Now the Jews knew exactly what he was claiming about himself.

And they sought all the more to kill him because "he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
