Just imagine: Mary and Joseph make their way through the crush of people seeking a place in Bethlehem to stay for the night. Mary was definitely showing. She’s well advanced in her pregnancy and there are those Jewish laws about being clean or unclean. Those laws kind of eliminated any Inn as a place that would allow Mary lodging. After all, pretty well everyone in the Inn would be considered unclean if she stayed there.
