Sermon Notes:
Joshua 20:1-3
The word refuge in the natural could be defined in in the following manner:
Only in Jesus Christ will you find Protection for your soul as well as the answer you need for the situation your facing. God tells Joshua to finish what He had commanded Moses in Numbers 35. To appoint six cities of refuge to protect the manslayer that had killed someone unintendedly. Such a person would need protection from the avenger of blood. The avenger of blood would take on the responsibility to assure justice would be carried out against the accused. The law stated that justice was an eye for an eye, and tooth for tooth. But if the accused would run to the city of refuge, he would receive mercy, and protection from the avenger of blood.
Proverbs 18:10
Four things that both the Cities of Refuge and our Lord Jesus Christ have in common, so that someone here today would decide to run to “Jesus our Only Refuge”.
Both Are Easily Found
Both are open to all
Both are the only hope for someone in need.
Both provide protection within their boundaries
Both brought full freedom with the death of the High Priest
