In light of the death and resurrection of Christ, Paul urges the Colossian believers

not to submit themselves to ethnic and religious rituals, visionary experiences,

and ascetic practices. Unlike the reality of the victory accomplished by God

through Christ, these regulations and practices provide only false promises that

distract one from God’s powerful work and have no real effect on a person’s life.
