To alleviate shame we might find a way to look down on others. Maybe it's by putting ourselves on the "moral high ground" so that someone is "less than" ourselves. The Pharisees (and Saul of Tarsus) are prime examples of this.

Jesus always lifted the "less than" up! He overthrows the system by justifying the ungodly, and aren't we glad?!!!
