Lazarus is Raised from the Death. John 11 Lesson 15
John 11 tells us about the Resurrection power of Jesus over death and His divine ability to give us new life. Jesus is the God we have always read about in the Old Testament who made the world (Heb1) and everything in it. He is the exact representation of the Father, glorious in manifesting to all creation the wondrous nature of God the Father. This is the Trinitarian concept that most Christians have a weak grasp of. In John 1:18, John reminds us as part of his Thesis statement that "No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made Him known." Jesus taught in our lesson last week, that He and the Father are one; if you had seen Jesus, you had seen the Father.
This week, study the 5th "I Am" statement Jesus make about His identity: "I AM the Resurrection and the Life."
Doctrine: Resurrection
Attribute of God: Omnipotent
Big idea: Jesus’s resurrection power over death
Aim: Jesus’s resurrection power overcomes death.
Divisions:
I. Jesus learned of Lazarus’s illness but delayed seeing him. (John 11:1-16)
II. Jesus challenged Mary and Martha’s faith and raised Lazarus from death. (John 11:17-44)
III. Caiaphas initiated a plot to murder Jesus. (John 11:45-57)
Principles:
Desperate circumstances provide opportunities to strengthen our faith and reveal God’s glory.
Only Jesus gives new life to dead hearts.
God ultimately overrules everyone and everything opposed to Him
Applications:
1. When has a delayed answer to prayer stretched your faith and proved God’s faithfulness?
2. What evidence do you see of Christ’s resurrection life working within you?
3. How have you seen God accomplish His purposes even when people oppose Him?
