In the Apostles' Creed when we affirm that Jesus is the Christ, we are saying that he fulfills all three of the anointed (“christened”) roles in the Hebrew Scriptural tradition: The prophet from whom we can hear from God, the priest through whom we can find our way back to God, and the king who leads us in God’s ways.

And that’s exactly what we need…and have in Jesus the Christ.
