When asked why he spoke in parables, Jesus said, “This is why I speak to them in parables, because ‘they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.’” (Matthew 13:13) Jesus’ parables capture our attention and stimulate our imagination like “plain talk” just can’t do.
