1) Always maintain SITUATIONAL awareness.

 

“12And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.” (Joshua 5:12, ESV)

 

• FOLLOW the Spirit’s direction.

 

“6And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 8So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas.” (Acts 16:6–8, ESV)

 

• LOOK for critical moments.

 

“13As Joshua was sizing up the city of Jericho…” (Joshua 5:13a, The Living Bible)

 

2) RECOGNIZE Jesus when you see Him

 

“13… behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” 14…And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”” (Joshua 5:13b–14b, ESV)

 

• Who is this guy? CHRIST!

 

“15And the commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.” (Joshua 5:15, ESV)

 

• Don’t let the chapters & verses FOOL YOU.

 

“2And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. 3You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. 4Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.”” (Joshua 6:2–5, ESV)

 

3) No, God’s NOT on your side.

 

14And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” (Joshua 5:14a, ESV)

 

• The question is: Am I on GOD’S SIDE?

 

 

• I am when my actions CONFORM with my faith.

 

14…And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”” (Joshua 5:13b–14b, ESV)

 

“21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:21–23, ESV)

 

4) EVERYTHING hinges on this question.

 

• Lordship determines

 

“20So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.” (Joshua 6:20, ESV)

 

• Lordship determines my

 

“5… The Lord is at hand; 6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:5–7, ESV)

 

• Lordship determines my

 

“6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, ESV)
