Lucy talks about how Peter’s declaration of Christ as Messiah reiterates a truth that has been set out at the very beginning of Mark - that Jesus is the Son of God, The Messiah, but within Peter’s declaration he reveals a misunderstanding of the ‘type’ of Christ Jesus really is. The term Messiah is being redefined in Mark 8:27-33 to include the need for suffering, death and resurrection. Jesus redefines the role of the Messiah from the ‘Warrior Messiah’ of Roman and Jewish culture to a new one defined at the foot of the cross.
