Listen Later

Episode Title: Jesus, the Perfect Priest-King
Series: Hebrews – Jesus is Greater
Text: Hebrews 5:1–10
Speaker: Jordan West

Episode Summary:
In this episode, we dive into Hebrews 5:1–10 to explore what it truly means that Jesus is our great High Priest. Many of us are familiar with the idea that Jesus intercedes for us, but do we actually understand the weight of that role? What did priests do in the Old Testament, and how does Jesus fulfill and surpass those responsibilities?

The writer of Hebrews paints a powerful picture of Jesus not only as a priest but also as a king in the order of Melchizedek—a mysterious figure who points forward to the eternal nature of Christ’s priesthood. We look at how earthly priests were called to offer sacrifices, bless the people, teach the law, and mediate between God and man. But these priests were limited by sin and death. Jesus, however, is without sin, and His obedience—proven through suffering—makes Him the only one truly qualified to be our eternal High Priest.

You’ll also learn:

  • Ten key responsibilities of Old Testament priests and how Jesus fulfills every one

  • Why Jesus’ priesthood had to be appointed by God and not self-claimed

  • How the life of Melchizedek in Genesis 14 foreshadows Christ

  • What it means that Jesus "learned obedience through suffering"

  • How Jesus represents us before the Father and bears our names even now

  • Why Jesus doesn’t want ten percent—He wants your whole heart

Whether you're familiar with the priestly system or this is new territory, this episode will deepen your understanding of Christ's majesty and mercy. He is our perfect Priest. He is our eternal King. And He is worthy of every part of our lives.
