In Hebrews 1:14, the idea of the Promised One being a ruler is directly contrasted to the nature of angels as servants. Angels ministered to Jesus after he was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, providing care and support after his 40-day fast (Matthew 4:11 and Mark 1:13). Angels are also “sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation” (v14) according to Hebrews; this reality is established throughout the Scriptures. Like us, angels are created by God. Unlike us or angels, Jesus is eternal and was with God before the earth’s foundations.
