Pentecost emphasizes the sending of the Holy Spirit to empower the disciples of Christ to carry on His mission in the world. All our appointed readings focus on giving comfort to the believer who discovers, contrary to cultural opinions, that they are still caught up in sinful flesh living in a broken world. In the Gospel reading, Jesus invites us to discover that, despite this brokenness of our world, He makes our burden light by giving us His yoke.
