Jewish Students at IU: Finding a Home

Listen Later

The 2024-2025 school year was a tough one for some Jewish students at Indiana University.  In September Hillel, the Jewish culture center on the IU Bloomington campus, hosted a memorial service mourning the deaths of six Israeli hostages in Gaza. Then in March the U.S. Department of Education included IU in its callout of sixty universities under investigation for antisemitism. But leadership of campus support services for Jewish students say they feel supported by the IU administration. Correspondent Caleb Robbins explores efforts to make Bloomington a safe place for students missing their Jewish community back home with IU Hillel executive director Jeff Linkon, and Jasmine Halpern, vice president of Chabad at Indiana University. This feature report includes audio from the March 7 “Mega Shabbat” event in Dunn Meadow and was produced in partnership with The Media School at Indiana University.
