In this episode of the
Journal of Gynecologic Oncology podcast, we explore a recent study that evaluates the outcomes of risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) in asymptomatic women with germline homologous recombination repair (HRR) gene mutations. This research represents the largest cohort of asymptomatic Asian women undergoing RRSO, including carriers of BRCA1, BRCA2, and other HRR gene mutations. We discuss key findings on the incidence of occult neoplasms, including serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC) and invasive carcinomas, as well as the risk of developing primary peritoneal carcinomatosis (PPC) after surgery. Tune in to learn about the implications of this study for long-term surveillance and personalized care for women undergoing RRSO.
