One of the big downsides of freelancing is getting consistent, stable income. One month, you can be up to your eyeballs with work and the next... nothing. And, it can be scary as hell to bounce from month to month like that. One way to deal with that is to get hired on retainer by your clients.

Now, for a lot of developers that sounds like a pipe dream. It certainly did to me.

Then, I pitched my first client on the idea. And, it was a lot easier than I imagined. Over the years, now, I've had several clients hire me on retainer and there's a set process for making this pitch.
