I was asked to answer this question over on Quora: "Why are people still learning PHP?" Sigh. Why are people still asking why are people still learning PHP?

But, one of the answers summed it up perfect.

Web development is a lot more regional than you might think. If you live in NYC or Silicon Valley, then sure... most start-ups aren't using PHP to build their app.

But, everywhere else?

In the freelance world?

PHP is still damn dominant. And, absolutely worth learning. In any case, in this podcast episode I go through that answer and give my thoughts on why PHP is still worth learning AND learning as your first server-side language.
