Is worshiping Jesus necessary for true worship of God? In this video, I respond to Catholic apologist Joe Heschmeyer’s arguments about Mormonism and Islam and explain why his logic falls apart when tested against Scripture. Joe claims that Mormons don’t worship the same Jesus as Christians—but simultaneously defends the Catholic position that Muslims worship the same God we do. But according to Jesus in John 5:23 and 1 John 2:23, you cannot honor the Father if you reject the Son. So how can Joe condemn Mormon worship while defending Muslim worship, when both explicitly deny the true identity of Jesus? In this response, I walk through Joe’s analogies, expose the logical trap he walks into, and show why the “same referent, wrong description” argument doesn’t hold up. Ultimately, this isn’t just about Mormonism or Islam—it’s about whether we’re going to stand on the clear words of Christ, or compromise those words to protect a council that contradicts Him.
