John 1:43-51
People come to know Jesus Christ through different influences. For example Andrew brought Simon, his brother, to the Lord Jesus. You read about that in John 1:40-42. Home is a good place to start witnessing. And after Andrew had met the Lord, he went and found Simon and said, “We have found the Messiah.” The Lord Jesus went out and found Philip himself. He called Philip and said, “Follow Me.” Sometimes the Lord immediately, personally speaks to people and says, “I want you.” When Philip got converted, he went and found his friend Nathanael. He said, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets did write: Jesus of Nazareth.” What were these people doing? They were sharing the witness, sharing their experience. They had found the Messiah. They had found the Savior.
Now the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who can change our lives. People come to Jesus Christ in different ways, through different influences. Andrew and John came to Christ through a preacher, John the Baptist. They heard him preach, “Behold, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!” One of the great joys in life is helping others to meet the Lord Jesus Christ and it’s really just as simple as that. Oh the devil wants to make it very complicated. The devil wants us to think you’ve got to have special training and so forth before you can go out and tell people about Jesus. Well it always is good to learn how to witness better. It’s always good to study the Word of God and get good training, but you know, all we have to do it go to people and say, “I have found the One who has changed my life, and I want to introduce you to Him. I’d like you to meet the Lord Jesus Christ.”
When Philip was saved, he went and found Nathanael. Nathanael trusted the Lord Jesus. He was amazed at what Jesus said about him. He was amazed to discover that the Lord Jesus had some great things planned for his life. What do we read in this section? We read that Jesus Christ is interested in meeting people, in changing them; taking sinners, saving them, enlisting them, putting them to work to tell others of the wonder of the salvation of the Lord in Jesus Christ.
