The first part, verses 15 through 18 is John the Baptist and the Apostle John proclaiming Jesus to be God.
The 2nd part, verses 19-28 is the religious leaders trying to understand what was happening and not being able to because of pre-held beliefs about prophecies.
The purpose or application tonight is to not let our held biases keep us from accepting Biblical Truth.
Instead of holding onto our Pre-existent ideas, where they conflict with the Bible we need to reject what we have been taught and humble ourselves to the Bible.
