John 4:35

No two people see the same thing in the same way. An artist might look at a landscape and see a beautiful picture. A real estate agent would look at that same landscape and see a housing development. A naturalist might see a beautiful place for a park. When Jesus lifted up His eyes, what did He see? Well, you find the answer in John chapter 4 verse 35. He says to His disciples, “Do you not say, ‘there are yet four months and then comes harvest’? Behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” At what were they looking? They were looking at that woman who had gone into the village, witnessed for the Lord Jesus and now she was leading the men out to the well there at Sychar. And the Lord Jesus said, “Do you see those people coming down that road? Do you see all those people who are following that new believer? What do you see there? Do you just see people, Samaritans, enemies?” The Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans. “No,” says the Lord Jesus. “You ought to see a harvest.”

What do you see when you look at people? Jesus looked at people and saw sheep that had no shepherd. He saw sheep that were being exploited and harassed. I think we have four instructions given to us from this verse. One, lift up your eyes and look. Two, lift up your heart and pray. Pray the Lord of the harvest that He’ll send laborers into the harvest field. Three, lift up your hands and work. There’s a job to be done. Four, lift up your feet and go. I wonder if someone listening to me right now hasn’t been spoken to by the Holy Spirit and He wants you out in that harvest! Lift up your eyes and look. Oh, do you see the great opportunity we have today to lead people to Christ? Never before has the opportunity been greater, the harvest been whiter.

Lift up your heart and pray. Are you praying for laborers? I hope that you are. Lift up your hands and give and work and lift up your feet and go. Oh how desperately we need laborers in the harvest field today. When you look at people today, what will you see? I hope you will see a harvest, and I hope you’ll get busy reaping the harvest.
