John 6 Explained | A Response To Jeff Durbin And Calvinism
In this episode Jordan responds to Jeff Durbin's use of John chapter 6 to support Calvinism. Rather than teaching the doctrine of unconditional election, John 6:45 communicates what is a consistent and recurring theme in John's gospel; that those Jews who were previously hearing and learning from the Father, being humbly attentive to the OT revelation, they would recognize Jesus and be drawn to him. But for those who disbelieved and rejected him, this demonstrated the true internal condition of their heart toward the invisible God.
By delving into several sections of John and referencing the epistles, Jordan brings into light this significant, recurring theme - that our positive reactions to the truth showcase our genuine bond with God. The Jews who responded to Jesus by coming to him and receiving him revealed their heart's true alignment with the God of Abraham. When Christ arrived on the scene then, there were two primary groups of Jews: those who truly revered God and followed His laws, and were therefore naturally drawn to Jesus, and those whose hearts were hardened and indifferent to the Messiah's miraculous arrival. This stark division also plays a crucial role in comprehending Romans 9.
