Late Night Debut, hosted by Amber Keller

This week we feature John Carr Walker’s debut short story collection, Repairable Men, published by Sunnyoutside. “One of the shrewdest and darkest story collections I’ve read in years …” writes John Vanderslice in Heavy Feather Review. “Not a word is wasted, and it’s safe to say that as much happens in the spaces between sentences as in the sentences themselves. And yet, even so, the sentences themselves are delicious, often evocative, and sometimes provocative.”

Act 1: Host Amber Keller covers entertaining book news and cool new debuts

Act 2: Co-host authors Samuel Snoek-Brown and Margaret Malone discuss John Carr Walker’s debut

Act 3: Samuel Snoek-Brown speaks with John Carr Walker about his process, characters, settings, and other aspects of writing about the American west

As the son of a raisin grower, or as a high school teacher for seven years, I taught a lot of kids of raisin growers, and I interacted with them in that way … I don’t claim to understand anything about them, there’s no way I could put them in a pigeon hole, but that’s often a good thing for fiction because it forces you to have to think very specifically about the person you’re writing about.”

GIVEAWAY: Win a free copy of Repairable Men. Listen to the episode for details, then email your answer to [email protected] by midnight on March 1.
