As often happens when something sensational shocks the conscience of the nation – half-baked reports become news!  Such was the case in 1954 when rising rock star Johnny Ace died of a gunshot to the head.
An early tabloid story reported that an executive from Duke Records, with whom Ace was negotiating a new contract, had killed the young musician.  That was followed by a news report that suggested Johnny Ace had committed suicide.
So, what really happened at Houston’s City Auditorium on that Christmas Day in 1954?
