Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison (w/ Mel LeBaron)

Listen Later

[GROUP PICK] Sometimes you find your salvation in life from the places you least expect. For Johnny Cash, in 1968, that place was prison. After a slight decline in his music success and struggles with substance abuse, he desperately needed to bounce back. He first had the idea back in 1958, when he notoriously performed at San Quentin prison and finally had a chance to make an official release out of it with "At Folsom Prison." The album was a huge success with it's raw crowd energy from the prisoners and an excellent performance and set list, selling more albums than even The Beatles that year. He continued to perform for prisons in the following years with "At San Quentin" (1959), "Pa Osteraker" (At Osteraker (Sweden)) (1973), and a TV broadcast "A Concert Behind Prison Walls" at Tennessee State Prison in 1976, forever earning his reputation for outlaw country. Join Brad LeBaron, Jon Acker, Scott Westley, and a very special guest, Brad's sister, Mel LeBaron, as they are taken on a somber journey about the horrors of being a prisoner in a United States prison...
