God is on a rescue mission to pursue and save a people bent on their own destruction and the destruction of others. He calls His prophet Jonah to travel to the capital city of the pagan nation of Assyria with a message of His judgment. Jonah is reluctant and rebellious to carry out the will of God, and takes the long route through the belly of a great fish in order to eventually get to Nineveh. Through Jonah we see God as the gracious and merciful savior who pursues those lost and dead in their sins.
