It was a real pleasure to have Motoring Journalist, TV and You Tuber Jonny Smith join us for a full fat chat about cars of yesteryear.
His story starts with a couple of British classics. A Harvest Gold Austin Allegro belonging to his Grandparents, and a Hillman Avenger that his parents owned from 1979 to the late nineties, perhaps even beyond the millennium!
We take in an Austin Maxi with a ‘drink driver facelift’ which his Dad repaired overnight with piano wire, ready for work the next day.
There’s a Vauxhall Carlton, an honourable mention for the Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier Estate (apparently built in Australia by Holden).
We also speak about a white Austin Rover Montego estate, why used car dealers have bunting, and more puzzlingly always leave the boot of a car open, when on display.
We finish things up with a chat about gifting books to schools, and incentivising car manufacturers painting their cars bright colours rather than ‘soviet grey’ or appliance white.
It goes without saying we recommend you take a listen to the wonderful Smith and Sniff Podcast, and check out The Late Brake Show on You Tube.
