Leaving Home: Im/migrant Interviews

Jorge with Luisa

Listen Later

In this episode, Jorge Martinez interviews Luisa, an immigrant from the Philippines.

Luisa remembers all about her journey and how her parents wanted what was best for her, although at times things would be rough. Throughout the conversation, there is talk about the struggles and challenges that were faced when going through the process of getting to the United States. Luisa also goes into a lot of detail about how hard it was getting used to everything after being in the Philippines as a child. She had to learn a completely different language, which was not so easy to do. There were so many things that Luisa had no clue about, and some of those things she wished she had known about before arriving. In the end, things turned out to be just fine and she is now pursuing a career in the medical field.

The conversation explores the complexities of the immigrant experience, reflecting on the bravery, struggles, and triumphs of those who leave home and immigrate to start anew.
